Festival Musicians for the World - Perú 2022

1st Edition

The marvels of online interaction have allowed us to connect and inspire music students all over the world. One of our dreams is to visit every community that we have been impacting remotely, and this festival is our first step in this journey. MFW teachers will be traveling to Peru during the month of August to engage with various music programs, including those in most vulnerable areas of Peru, all while performing for their communities.

Our Artists

Educational Activities

MFW teachers will be providing multiple opportunities for private and group lessons, open masterclasses, sectionals, and other educational activities. We are planning to provide over 100 hours of music instruction for more than 300 students over the course of these 2 weeks.

Visiting these programs is our priority. Some of them are located in extremely remote areas of Perú such as the districts of San Juan de Miraflores and Ancon. We are also performing side-by-side with Los Violines de San Juan, Violin Ensemble from Asociación Kaypi Kunan, and Daniel Alomias Robles Youth Orchestra who will be premiering the Clara Schumann Piano Concerto.

Outreach

Far and Beyond

This festival’s uniqueness lies in our intention to bring music to the most remote corners of Perú. Bringing this many renowned musicians to places such as the town of Choquepata or the district of San Juan de Miraflores is a breakthrough in our musical tradition. Classically trained musicians have yet to visit these communities.

Choquepata’s Plaza:

On Sunday, August 7, we will be celebrating a musical encounter with the community of Choquepata, a group of approximately 500 families located 14 miles southeast of Cusco. We will begin this journey by meeting Pututo players from the Wińaypaq Takin Ensemble at the Ruins of Tipon. After meeting these amazing local musicians and appreciating the marvelous Ruins of Tipon, we will travel down to the main square of Choquepata for a performance of our Musicians for the World Camerata, followed by a celebration thrown for us by the local community that includes local food and dance.

Pamplona Alta:

Located in the district of San Juan de Miraflores, Pamplona Alta is an area in the surrounding mountains of Lima inhabited by individuals who fled terrorism during the 70s and 80s. On August 9th of 2022, MFW artists are traveling to the Fe y Alegria school, which is located on the upper side of these mountains, for a side-by-side performance with Los Violines de San Juan, a local violin ensemble that regularly participates in MFW online activities.

Chamber Music

Throughout our time in Lima, MFW artists will work with 5 chamber music groups selected from some of the music programs we will be empowering during this festival. Each group will have the opportunity to receive coachings from our teachers and participate in our Chamber Music Students Performance on Saturday Aug 13.

This program has been made possible, in part, with support from ACMP Associated Chamber Music Players. Please join this growing network of passionate chamber musicians through their website www.acmp.net
